The Phoenix Suns spent the 2026 offseason retooling their rotation around star guard Devin Booker, adding backcourt depth and prioritizing continuity as the franchise looks to build a more balanced, sustainable roster. After a stretch of top-heavy construction, this summer's approach leaned toward depth and fit — a sensible recalibration around a proven centerpiece.

Reshaping the rotation

Phoenix brought in guards Cole Anthony and Amir Coffey via trade, adding scoring, playmaking and wing depth to a rotation that needed reinforcement. It also re-signed Jordan Goodwin, a useful two-way guard, to a multiyear deal, keeping a rotation piece in place. None of these are franchise-altering moves, but collectively they reflect a front office trying to build a deeper, more functional roster around Booker rather than relying on a small handful of stars.

That shift toward balance is notable. Recent Suns rosters have been criticized for lacking depth and defensive versatility, and the emphasis this offseason on adding rotation players suggests the organization recognizes those shortcomings. Building a complete team around a star, rather than stacking stars and hoping the rest sorts itself out, is often the more durable approach.

The Booker foundation

The constant through all of it is Booker, one of the premier scoring guards in the league and the clear centerpiece of the franchise. Phoenix's offseason was fundamentally about surrounding him with the kind of complementary talent that lets him thrive — depth, shooting, and two-way contributors who can shoulder some of the load. A star of Booker's caliber gives the Suns a high floor; the question is whether the retooled supporting cast raises the ceiling.

Season outlook

The Suns enter next season looking to reestablish themselves in a brutally deep Western Conference. The additions provide depth and balance, but Phoenix will have to prove that its retooled roster can compete with the West's best on a nightly basis. Much depends on health, chemistry and whether the new pieces fit as intended around Booker. It wasn't a blockbuster offseason in Phoenix, and it didn't need to be — the priority was building a more complete team. Whether that recalibration is enough to climb in a loaded conference is the question the season will answer.
