Titans go all-in around Cam Ward — new coaches, new weapons, big expectations

The Tennessee Titans are betting big on their young franchise quarterback. After a dismal three-win 2025, Tennessee overhauled its coaching staff and aggressively reshaped the roster around Cam Ward — the 2025 No. 1 overall pick entering a pivotal second season. The message is clear: the Titans intend to give Ward everything he needs to succeed.

New leadership

Tennessee brought in a new coaching duo, with the rejuvenated Robert Saleh taking over as head coach and Brian Daboll running the offense as coordinator. Both bring head-coaching experience and clear plans, and Daboll — high on Ward since his draft year — is tasked with unlocking a quarterback who showed flashes but battled inconsistency as a rookie. New leadership with a defined vision is exactly what a young QB and a struggling roster needed.

Weapons for Ward

The Titans attacked Ward's supporting cast, signing versatile slot receiver Wan'Dale Robinson in free agency and using their first-round pick on Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate at No. 4 — a surprise selection that gives Ward a genuine outside threat. With Calvin Ridley also in the fold, Ward's receiving corps is dramatically improved over the group that helped doom Tennessee to the league's worst passing numbers a year ago.

Fixing the defense

Tennessee didn't neglect the other side of the ball, using its second first-round pick on edge rusher Keldric Faulk at No. 31 and adding front-seven disruption and secondary help in free agency, including a top cornerback to address a defense that struggled with explosive plays. It was a genuinely aggressive, two-sided makeover.

Season outlook

The Titans overhauled nearly everything, and the question is whether it's enough to climb out of the AFC South basement. Tennessee ranked near the bottom of the league offensively in 2025, hamstrung by a lack of weapons and shaky protection. The 2026 situation is markedly better, but tight end depth and overall consistency remain concerns. If Ward takes a Year 2 leap under Daboll and the new weapons deliver, the Titans could surprise. Realistically, this is a team on the rise that may need another offseason to fully arrive — but the aggressive reset gives Ward a real chance to break out.
